Betagro set out to take the lead in Plant-Based food with 3 new menus, highlighting the concept 'Deliciously Healthy'
15 July, 2024

Bangkok - July 15, 2024 - Betagro Public Company Limited (BTG), Thailand's leading integrated food company, through "Betagro Ventures," introduces "Meatly!" a premium plant-based food product, aiming to penetrate the plant-based food market. The company is launching three new menus in response to the Thai food soft power trend: Plant-based Pork Belly with Basil on Rice, Plant-based Pork Belly with Chinese Kale on Rice, and Plant-based Pork Belly with Salt and Chili on Rice. The concept, "Plant-based Meat, Delicious and Healthy," emphasizes familiar flavors with high protein and fiber, zero cholesterol, and a modern image reflecting a health-conscious product made with plant-based protein. A pricing strategy has been laid down to make the product more accessible to consumers, targeting leadership in the ready-to-eat plant-based food market. Mr. Chayadhorn Taepaisitphongse, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of Betagro Public Company Limited (BTG) and Managing Director of Betagro Ventures, revealed that "Betagro Ventures" focuses on spurring innovation across the Betagro ecosystem and operates on three core strategies: (1) Improving consumers access to safe and high-quality food, (2) Developing new sustainable sources of protein, and (3) Creating sustainable agro-industrial-food supply chains. In the past, Betagro Ventures has developed plant-based food under the Meatly! brand to provide consumers with an alternative to high-quality and safer food products in response to the health and sustainability trends. According to Euromonitor, from 2019 to 2024, the global plant-based food market value has a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.5%, and it is expected to reach approximately USD 25 billion by 2024. Meanwhile, Krungthai Research Center forecasts that the plant-based food market in Thailand will grow to THB 45 billion by 2024, with a CAGR of 10%, similar to the global market growth rate. Ms. Voralun Taepaisitpongse, Meatly! Founder in Residence, stated that Meatly!, a premium plant-based food brand, aims to offer a diverse range of products, including ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat meals, covering both Thai and international cuisines. This is to cater to health-conscious consumers who seek variety and convenience, suitable for a busy lifestyle. Recently, they launched three delicious new menu items, highlighting traditional plant-based meat dishes under the concept " Plant-based Meat, Delicious and Healthy," with modern packaging. These include 1) Plant-based Pork Belly with Basil on Rice, 2) Plant-based Pork Belly with Chinese Kale on Rice, and 3) Plant-based Pork Belly Stir-fried with Chili on Rice. These dishes feature plant-based pork belly that closely mimics the taste and aroma of real meat, offering high protein and fiber nutritional benefits. Meatly! has rolled out a new pricing strategy, setting the price at 59 baht. Additionally, the product is now vegan, making it more accessible to customers and encouraging increased consumption of alternative protein products. The introduction of three new Thai dishes into the market brings the total number of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products offered by Meatly! to over 13. Notably, the development of the Plant-based Pork Belly with Basil on Rice, a favorite meal often chosen for daily consumption, is expected to expand the health-conscious customer base. These products are now available at Thailand leading department stores and supermarkets, such as Tops, Lotus, Gourmet Market, and online at Shopee: Meatly! Foods. "Betagro believes that Meatly! will be a driving force in propelling Betagro's food business into a new era for sustainable long-term growth. We are committed to continuously developing new menus to create delicious and healthy experiences under Betagro's high quality and safety standards. This ensures that consumers have access to new protein sources and helps build a sustainable agro-industrial-food industry supply chain," said Ms. Voralun.

04 July, 2024

Betagro Public Company Limited, or "BTG," through its International Business, is building on the success of its integrated agro-industrial and food business by establishing a foundation for food security in the ASEAN region. The company is committed to delivering food that meets the highest safety standards, superior quality, and taste at fair prices through sustainable production. BTG is investing 650 million baht in the Lao PDR to build its first feed mill with a production capacity of 108,000 tons per year. The goal is to create quality products from upstream to downstream, expanding distribution channels for meat products and processed foods to modern retail stores and Betagro Shops, while raising brand awareness among consumers. This effort aligns with the booming tourism industry, aiming for a growth of over 22% in BTG's international business revenue in 2024. Mr. Worrawut Vanitkulbodee, Chief Operating Officer - International Business, Betagro PCL (BTG), reported that Betagro has set its international business strategy for 2024, focusing on expanding its business in ASEAN countries. This strategy reinforces Betagro's position as Thailand's leading integrated food company, dedicated to enriching people’s lives with better food. The company is working towards building a robust food industry foundation, covering the entire supply chain in Cambodia and the Lao PDR, which are the main revenue-generating countries for the international business group. The company plans to operate its business in Laos, where it currently has 135 farms for pigs and poultry, selling fattening pig, broiler, and layer hen, and 4 Betagro Shops. Recently, the company has invested 650 million baht to build the first Betagro feed mill in Laos, driven by modern technology, including a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that helps analyze raw materials and animal feed to ensure the quality and safety of animal feed production. The mill has an annual production capacity of 108,000 tons to meet growing demand and improve cost management, reducing the import of animal feed from Thailand. At the same time, the company is focusing on building the Betagro brand by selling pork, chicken, processed foods, and expanding distribution channels through kiosks, modern trade such as Big C Supermarkets, and expanding its customer base of food service providers. In Cambodia, Betagro currently has one feed mill in Phnom Penh, 425 pig and poultry farms, and 6 Betagro Shops. The company is driving its business with the following strategies: 1) "Agro Total Solution" to deliver integrated agribusiness by restructuring the sales team to meet the needs of presenting animal feed, veterinary medicines and supplements, and integrated farm equipment businesses. 2) Expand into the midstream business by offering integrated chicken and pork slaughterhouse services. 3) Adjust the product portfolio to increase the proportion of meat products and processed foods under Betagro brand through various distribution channels. And 4) Expand the customer base of food service providers such as restaurants and hotels to support the positive factors of tourism recovery. In Myanmar, the company has been operating in the form of a joint venture with local partners. Myanmar is one of the attractive ASEAN markets, but the situation needs to be closely monitored and continuous research is needed to conduct business with caution and the utmost consideration. In addition, the company is looking for growth opportunities by expanding its business into new countries in the future. "In our international business expansion, Betagro focuses on building a strong foundation for the food industry from upstream to downstream to deliver quality and safe products that meet international standards to all consumers. We continuously invest in technology to enhance management, reduce costs, increase productivity, and develop the skills and expertise of our personnel to create jobs and generate income for local people. We also join forces with partners through business networks in all sectors to drive growth and create food security for sustainable life in the ASEAN region. We expect the international business to achieve revenue growth of over 22% in 2024," said Mr. Worrawut
